Following its acquisition of the Pan United and Labroy yards in Singapore and Indonesia’s Batam Island, Drydocks World opened new regional headquarters in Singapore last week.
The subsidiary of Dubai World intends to use the four yards to establish a foothold in the rapidly expanding offshore construction sector. The yards specialize in shipbuilding, conversion, offshore rig construction and ship repair. Drydocks World is set to begin construction of a new yard in Batam on a 174ha greenfield site in September. The facility will be equipped with a ship lift to serve multiple dry berths for newbuilding and repair. The group is also reported to be in the final stage of negotiations for the purchase of a shipyard in China’s Shanghai area.
