SBM Offshore expects new orders

SBM Offshore CEO Didier Keller outlined three major orders that are expected in the near future for the offshore engineering and installation company in Netherlands.

The first project specified was an FPSO for Woodside on the Cossack field in Australia. Woodside will order the unit on a turnkey sales basis rather than leasing. Engineering work on the project has already begun. SBM Offshore also expects further work from Petrobras, in the form of the relocation and adaptation of an existing FPSO to the Cachalote field offshore Brazil. Keller said the project will have a portfolio value equivalent to a mid-size FPSO. BP is expected to commit to order two FPSOs for use on Block 13 offshore Angola. The order would allow SBM Offshore to continue with development of a construction yard in Porto Amboim. In addition to the expected orders, SBM Offshore is working on obtaining a contract for the development of offshore gas liquefaction technology, along with focusing on improving its ultra deepwater technologies such as TLP applications and disconnectable mooring systems and improving technology for the exploitation of offshore gas and developing renewable energy systems.

Norwegians target Offshore India

Little more than a year after first approaching the Indian offshore market, Fosnavaag-based Havila International ASA is providing designs for new fewer than eight anchor handling tugs under construction in India for owners including the Shipping Corporation of India.

Havila International president Gunnar Larsen is surprised at the speed of the take-up but believes there is much more potential off the Indian coast. The Norwegian builder is providing design packages for two types of anchor handlers. Four of its Havyard 842 units are being built at ABG Shipyard for delivery commencing the second half of 2009. Meanwhile SCI has ordered four Havyard 841 anchor handlers at Bharati Shipyard, with delivery due from the first quarter of 2010. Working through local owner and now its agent Garware Offshore Services, Havila is providing detailed design packages for the vessels. These will include bringing some Indian yard personnel to its facilities in Norway as well as sending its own design specialists to India at key stages of construction. Elsewhere in Asia, Havyard designs are proving popular. They have been chosen by Swire Pacific Offshore for the construction of four anchor handlers at Drydocks World – Singapore, formerly Pan United Marine, with delivery scheduled from the first quarter of 2011. Moreover, Havyard 842 designs will be used for four new vessels to be built at Yuexin Shipyard in Guangzhou, China.
