ISO for Dubai Maritime City

DNV has awarded quality, safety and environmental ISO certification to Dubai Maritime City (DMC) and its regulatory arm Dubai Maritime City Authority.

DMC aims to become the world’s first purpose-built maritime centre when it is completed in 2012. Dubai Maritime City, part of the Dubai World Group of companies, and Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA), Dubai's premier maritime regulatory authority, have recently been awarded ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications in recognition of their strong focus towards quality, health and safety and environmental management practices. DMC and DMCA have also been awarded a certificate of compliance to PAS 99:2006 in recognition of the integration of their management systems and for reaping the benefits of adopting a single integrated management system covering all three spheres. They are the first and currently the only organizations in the Middle East to be awarded the PAS 99 compliance certificate by DNV. The certificates were presented by DNV’s CEO Dr Henrik O. Madsen to Amer Ali, CEO of DMCA who said: “DMC and DMCA opted for the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 endorsements as these standards are widely acknowledged for quality, environmental, health and safety management systems. The certifications stipulate how the two organisations need to implement effective mechanisms for the satisfaction of their customers, and the welfare of their employees and communities.

PetroChina signs gas pact with Chevron

PetroChina has signed a gas sales contract with Chevron covering the US major’s output from the Chuandongbei sour gas field in south-western China’s Sichuan province.

The deal was signed in late November and will call for Chevron to sell its equity gas to PetroChina Southwest Oil & Gas. He declined to release the price formula, but the volumes covered by the deal are understood to start at about 1 billion cubic metres per year, rising to about 3 Bcm. “Along with PetroChina, Chevron continues to progress work on the Chuandongbei gas project following the signature of a 30-year production sharing contract with China National Petroleum Corporation that became effective in February 2008,” Chevron spokesman Kurt Glaubitz told Upstream. “We will not make any additional details available until we reach our final investment decision and after we have received final government approval to proceed with the project,” he added. Chevron is operator of the field with a 49% equity stake, while partner CNPC holds the 51% balance. PetroChina will market the gas to utilities, such as gas-based chemical plants, as well as fuel for iron and steel mills, Upstream was told. China-based industry officials said the field will likely start producing first gas by the end of next year.
