New Escort Vessel for the U.S. Navy

After 54 years of building only commercial vessels, Gladding-Hearn Shipbuilding, Duclos Corporation, has delivered its first high-speed patrol boat for the federal government.

The 64-foot screening escort vessel, with the mission of securing high-value Naval assets, will be operated by the U.S. Coast Guard. The all-aluminum boat features a C. Raymond-Hunt-designed deep-V hull, with a CPI Marine fender system, and is powered by twin MTU diesel engines and connected to Hamilton water-jets. Top speed is over 30 knots. The pilothouse on a flush deck, with forward-leaning front windows, leads to the forecastle, equipped with a head, galley, berths, and lockers.

MSDS requirement for fuel deliveries from 01 July 2009

With effect from 1 July 2009, SOLAS Reg VI/5-1 will require marine fuel suppliers to provide your ship crew, prior to delivery, with a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for each type of oil fuel to be loaded to the ship.

The MSDS contains instructions on safe onboard handling of the corresponding fuel product. To facilitate air transportation of fuel samples to DNVPS and other fuel testing labs, airlines are also requiring MSDS to be included in the dispatch documentation. Your chief engineer should either attach the MSDS on the outside of the sample carton box, together with the Proforma Invoice and Airway Bill, or pass these threedocuments to the freight forwarding agent.As with the current practice, the DNVPS Chief Engineer's Form and the Bunker Delivery Note (BDN) must be placed inside the sample carton box before dispatch.

RMK Marine delivers ‘T.Gonul’

RMK Marine, Turkey, has delivered a product tanker built for Tüpraş.
The 10,900DWT tanker, named ‘T. Gönül’, measures 131 metres in overall length and 18.9 metres at the beam. The construction of ‘T. Gönül’ started in December 2007. The vessel was then launched on October 23 2008. The vessel can achieve a service speed of 14.1 knots at 85 percent MCR.

Greatship Subsidiary boosts fleet

Mumbai: Greatship Global Offshore Services, a Singapore incorporated subsidiary of Greatship (India) Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Great Eastern Shipping Company, has taken delivery of Greatship Aditi.

It is an 80T Anchor Handling Tug cum Supply Vessel, from Sri Lanka's Colombo Dockyard. The vessel has been financed via a Sale and Lease Back Arrangement. Greatship Aditi is a DP2, FiFi1 full service vessel built to exacting specifications, and capable of supporting offshore exploration and production in various regions across the world. GIL and its subsidiaries currently own and / or operate six PSVs, five AHTSVs and one jack up rig.GIL and its subsidiaries also have an order book of fourteen vessels and one rig under construction - two AHTSVs in Batam, four MPSVs in Singapore, two MSVs in India, four ROVSVs in Sri Lanka, two 150 TBP AHTSVs in Batam, and a premium 350' jack up rig in Singapore.

StatoilHydro finds oil at Gygrid

OSLO: StatoilHydro has discovered oil in the Gygrid prospect, 20 km (12.4 miles) northeast of the Njord field in the southern part of the Norwegian Sea.

The discovery contains and estimated 20 to 30 million barrels of recoverable oil. Exploration well 6407/8-5 S and appraisal well 6407/8-5 were drilled by Seadrill semisubmersible West Alpha. Neither well has been formation tested, but data and cores have been gathered. The exploration well proved oil in Lower Jurassic reservoir rocks, and was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,347 meters (7,700 feet) below sea level. It terminated in the Lower Jurassic Åre formationDrilled as a sidetrack from the exploration well, the appraisal confirmed the oil column and delineated the discovery. It also found oil in Middle Jurassic rocks. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2,123 meters (6,965 feet) and terminated in the Lower Jurassic Tilje formation These wells are the third and fourth in PL 348, where the water depth is 247 meters (810 feet). They will now be permanently plugged and abandoned.
