Port of Algeciras Bay Authority grants license to build third container terminal

The Port of Algeciras Bay Authority’s Board of Administration has granted a license to Total Terminal International Algeciras to build and run what is set to be the third container terminal at the Port of Algeciras Bay, Spain.

It is to be located on the Phase A plot of the Isla Verde Exterior expansion area. TTI Algeciras is the Algeciras-based company founded by the South Korean corporation, Hanjin Shipping, to run the terminal. The concession comprises the occupation and operation of a 292,910 metre-square surface area, made up of a 57,990 square metre manoeuvring zone and two quaylines of 650 metres (east) and 550 metres (north). TTI Algeciras is set to build a public container terminal under a semi-automatically managed model, which implies that quayside cranes are to be manually controlled, whereas yard cranes are to be controlled remotely. TTI Algeciras forecasts that business activity should commence at its container terminal in mid 2010.
