Cargo vessel sinks in the Philippines

A 354.9GT cargo vessel sank near Cebu Wharf in the Philippines late last week.

‘Gwen Vida’, a lunging craft tanker (LCT) owned by Jomalia Shipping was carrying gravel sank near the Quano Private Wharf, some 50 metres off Cebu City. All thirteen officers and crew swam to safety and were rescued by a passing tug boat. The Philippines Coast Guard has now dispatched a Marine Environment Protection Unit and divers to assess the situation and to ascertain that the cargo would not cause any harm to marine life and other passing vessels. The cause of the incident is yet unknown, and there were no reports of bad weather in the area at the time of the incident.
